From preschool through eighth
grade, Norwood-Fontbonne offers a superior education. Norwood-Fontbonne
provides a supportive, nurturing environment in which students receive the
personal attention they need to progress and succeed. Norwood-Fontbonne
students can begin their education in an American Montessori Society certified
Montessori Program that begins at the three-year-old level and continues
through the third grade, or in the Primary Elementary Program that begins at
the kindergarten level and continues through the third grade. Both the
Montessori and Primary programs are accredited by the Middle States Association
of Colleges and Schools. Students from the Primary and Montessori
programs merge at the fourth grade level.
Three and four year olds engage
in a half-day program, five days a week. Five year olds and Junior
Level students enjoy a full-day program.
Preschool Montessori
classrooms are comprised of students who are three, four, and five
years old. A head teacher and an assistant lead each Preschool class.
Junior Level Montessori classrooms are comprised of first, second,
and third grade students. Head
teachers and assistants direct each Junior Level classroom.
Montessori teachers use their professional skills
to match students’ developmental
needs with
activities. Through the use of a diverse set of Montessori materials,
children develop competencies through repetitive concrete
experiences. Learning is enhanced by individual and group instruction.
Montessori students also engage in cooperative learning through peer
teaching and social interaction.
Religion, language arts, mathematics, history,
culture, geography, and science are studied at all levels, and the
curriculum is enriched with classes in art, music, technology, library science, Spanish
and physical education.
Students experience
ongoing and varied forms of assessment. Standardized tests are administered yearly from kindergarten through grade seven.
